Hops in Humboldt 2008

The Fifth Annual Hops in Humboldt took place Saturday, August 23, 2008 in Fortuna's Rohner Park. Once again we were blessed with fantastic weather and patrons enjoyed and ecclectic music line-up, arts and crafts, and a variety of food choices. Oh, and a taste of a staggering variety of craft-brewed beers.

Proceeds were in excess of $30,000 and have benefited several charity projects selected by the Hops in Humboldt foundation and our co-sponsors. These charities include;

  • Rohner Park Electrical Expansion
  • Fortuna Area Youth Sports
  • South Fortuna Elementary Track Project
  • Fortuna Senior Services
  • FHS Every 15 minutes
  • Fortuna Area Back-Pack Program

The Hops In Humboldt committee would like to thank all those involved with helping make this years event a success and especially all of you who attended the event this year. We hope to see all of you again next year.

Cheers!!

Beer News

The Average American

A recent study conducted by Harvard University found that the average American walks about 900 miles a year.

Another study by the American Medical Association found that Americans drink, on average, 22 gallons of alcohol a year.

This means, on average, Americans get about 41 miles to the gallon.

The buffalo theory

"A herd of buffalo can move only as fast as the slowest buffalo. When the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine."
